ARIZONA STATE SENATE*
Fact Sheet For SB1070(A)
Child Pornography, Pedophilia, and Safe Neighborhoods
Requires officials and agencies of the state and political subdivisions to fully comply with and assist in the enforcement of federal child pornography and pedophilia laws and gives citizens of Arizona subpoena power in certain investigations of individuals who look reasonably suspicious as to storing child pornography on their personal or business computers and/or participate in pedophilia activities.
Requires a reasonable attempt to be made to determine whether certain individuals are in possession of child pornography or participate in pedophilia activities during any legitimate contact made by any citizens or official or agency of the state or a county, city, town or political subdivision if reasonable suspicion exists that the person is a pedophile.
Pedophiles generally are males, of European descent, many of whom have gray hair and/or are bald[ing], are older, and/or younger and involved in politics. Data I compiled as a student at Arizona State University found that 60 percent of persons incarcerated in the Maricopa County jails on child sexual assault charges were classified as “Caucasian” and most were between the ages of 40-60 in 2006. That means a large number of Maricopa County and Arizona state officials are “reasonably suspicious.”
Any and all individuals who reasonably fit this description can be arrested by any citizen or law enforcement officer of Arizona. However, all efforts will be made to protect the civil rights of all pedophile suspects.
This law is passed in light of events happening in certain churches, the fact pedophiles can easily be identified, and is meant to protect our children from predators who hide behind a “title.”
In light of other laws recently passed which target individuals based on their appearance, this law is congruent with state precedent.
