Day 34: NFL Football Game on TV and The “O.G.’s” 13 years In Prison

by Brian A. Wilkins

1/20/09

This day corresponds with Sunday, August 24. I have seen, since getting out of jail, that Sheriff Joe Arpaio tells the public he only allows inmates to watch C-Span and The Weather Channel. This is untrue. In fact, Arpaio made a big deal about “allowing” inmates to watch the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Title Game this past Sunday. You watch whatever the D.O. allows the television to be on that day. They apparently couldn’t care less about any orders handed down by Arpaio. The poker tables are apparently prohibited by Arpaio as well, but I Read Entire Article

Day 33: Escape Scheming and How I’ll Tell This Story

by Brian A. Wilkins

1/20/09

This day corresponds with Saturday, August 23, 2008.

After these doors opening woke me again, as they always do, I couldn’t get back to sleep. Chino came by and told me he signed a plea yesterday; he’ll serve about a year-and-a-half in prison. He didn’t seem all that bummed about it; he knew it was coming. Plus he knows its his own dumb ass fault he escaped his work-release program, which is why he’s here.

I had to get out of that cell for a while, as the toilet smelled really bad Read Entire Article

Day 32: Cruel Guards and “The Master Plan”

by Brian A. Wilkins

1/20/09

This day corresponds with Friday, August 22.

I could kind of feel my body starting to stiffen; starting to expect very little movement, thus I’d get a lot of cramps and would crack a lot when I moved around. So much for all that temporary giddiness I had yesterday. I thought the judge would rule on it quickly but I guess he has 15 days to do it. And I’m not sure if I’ll have to actually go to court for it. I thought a ruling might be done on this thing by Read Entire Article

Day 31: Judge Receives Letters, the “Una-Brotha,” and The Rev is a Daddy

by Brian A. Wilkins

1/20/09

This day corresponds with Thursday, August 21.

Thank god! The doors finally opened. Seems like it was 4 or 5 days I’d been locked in here but it had actually “only” been about 40 hours. I didn’t care that I would be putting dirty clothes back on after taking a shower. Hell, I didn’t even care if the water was cold. It had been at least three days since my last shower. I stayed in there for at least 30 minutes…plus this would be the first time I’d try the women’s deodorant Read Entire Article

Day 30: SRT again…and Lockdown Again

by Brian A. Wilkins

1/20/09

This day corresponds with Wednesday, August 20.

Here we go again. Its about 7 a.m. and the doors have not opened. Must be another lockdown day, which means no clean towels or clean socks. I guess after 30 days of this, I should be used to that though. There’s just no telling what could be happening in my body right now. Drinking water from the same source as a toilet and the fact there’s no telling what could be in some of this food I’ve been forced to eat out of sheer starvation Read Entire Article

Day 29: Being a Target, People’s Jail Problems, and Coping

by Brian A. Wilkins

1/20/09

This day corresponds with Tuesday, August 19, 2008.

BOOM! It has to be 3:00 a.m. I think. The guy in the cell next to here must have court tomorrow/today. His cell door just slammed…which of course woke me up again. Doors are slamming all night in here as these guards do their rounds. I’m just starting to wonder why I’m being targeted? Is it because I sued a company (and won) with the name “Tempe” in it? Do the police have more power than the prosecutors? Did people who now work at the Read Entire Article

No Trial on Jan. 20; Settlement Conference In March

by Brian A. Wilkins

1/13/09

My 7th time in court Monday produced more items of interest and more delay. The prosecution and my representation via the public defender’s office came up with a plea agreement where I’d plead guilty to two offenses that will be classified as misdemeanors and sentence me to probation. Apparently at a settlement conference, to be held March 2, I will be able to present my case, speak directly to judge and prosecutor, etc. before deciding whether to sign the plea or go to trial. There was supposed to be a settlement conference scheduled before October 22,

Day 28: Pod Meeting and New “Black” Head

by Brian A. Wilkins
1/13/09

This day corresponds with Monday, August 18.

Rodney strolled in the cell about 10 a.m., which was kind of early, since both of us usually slept until 1pm everyday. He had just called the public defender’s office to see if his attorney could bring him a copy of the police report. “Man they said my lawyer is at a different number. And the number they gave me doesn’t accept collect calls,” he said. Several attorneys had said they would represent him, but would back out a few days later. I tried to reassure

Day 27: Grievance “Hearing”

by Brian A. Wilkins
1/13/09

This day corresponds with Sunday, August 17.

“Wilkins…go through the doors and take a left!” the D.O. said via the loud speaker. Who knew what bullshit was about to happen. I went through the doors and stopped at the round desk area where medical is. The G.I. Joe guard, along with the older “black” female guard, and the goofy-looking guy all stood there, the latter having a copy of the grievance I filed.

“So you want to explain what happened in this?” he asked me. I told him I explained

Day 26: D.O. With A Heart, $3.00 Prison Medical, and West Nubian Sacrifice

by Brian A. Wilkins
1/13/09

This day corresponds to Saturday, August 16. As the days approach the first complete month being in Maricopa County Jails, the entries start getting a little more “off” and even incoherent at times. Train, who’s real name is Anthony Belcher, is now serving 10 years in Arizona State Prisons. His earliest projected release is 2016. See you soon dawg!

Wow! Today is my fourth Saturday in here. Hard not to cry at this point; while trying to imagine Leslie Gore singing, “It’s My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To” and
